The sculpture of Kris Merschat embraces realism and captures the true hidden emotions of the subjects.  Formed in bronze, iron, clay, aluminum, etc, they hold the attention of the contemplative viewer.  Merschat's art inspires the observer to stop and look more closely.

Pursuing art as a profession has always been a desire for Merschat. He attended the high school for performing and visual arts in Houston, Texas, developing his vision as an artist and exploring different avenues, although he continued to participate in art classes in college and draw and sculpt on his own time.  Merschat prepared for and pursued a career as an occupational therapist. While running a successful private practice, he studied under accomplished sculptors such as Leonda Finke, Bruno Lucchesi, and Anthony Antonios, earning accolades, positive feedback, and invaluable camaraderie with these masters.

Merschat enjoys casting his own metal and has received most of his foundry skills development at Sloss Furnaces in Birmingham, Alabama.  His appreciation of the Resident Artists at Sloss is immense. Merschat's lovely wife has afforded him the opportunity to pursue sculpture as a full time career.

Merschat has continually pursued experience and knowledge and has nurtured his affinity for sculpture.  Merschat has domestic as well as international collectors and has displayed work at The Keukenhof in the Netherlands, and at Brookgreen Gardens Sculpture Center in South Carolina.
